Rabies Update!
May 28, 2009

We have received many questions regarding Rabies, and is it in your area.
In co-operation with the Ohio Board of Health and Ohio Division of Wildlife, Greg Miller Animal Control is
gathering animals in Cuyahoga, Portage, and Summit Counties.  These animals are then sent to the Center for
Disease Control for testing.

If at any time you see  raccoons, squirrels, bats, or skunks behaving very odd or very aggressive during
daylight hours, Please contact your local police department immediately and have them notify your animal
control officer to remove the animal.

If you have concerns about your pets coming into contact with these animals. Please make sure they are up to
date with all their vaccinations.

Do not leave food or water out at night.  These animals will venture into your yard to help themselves.  It is at
this time your pet may be outdoors and conflicts will happen.  If your pet does come into a conflict, call your
vet immediately, and ask them what can you do until he or she may see your pet.

If you or your child is bitten by any wild or domestic animal call your local Board of Health, police department
and doctor.  If you know where the animal went or is still in the area, tell the authorities, so that they may
dispatch someone to attempt to capture that animal for testing.
Rabies can be a fatal, if not treated immediately. With proper medical attention it can be treated very
successfully.
